the rust just popped up?

Had a little rash over the rear wheel lips when I parked it for the winter...unfortunately, i don't have a garage(the 1-car attatched was converted into a den before I bought the place, it currently serves as the wife and I's bedroom...3 kids, and the oldest is gonna be here until he finishes business school), so my stuff sits outdoors.....rain/snow/ice...the side-drive where I park it isn't paved, just stone.

The T-tops leaked a bit, allowing water in and collected in the rear footwells.....I like the 3rd-gens, but I'm half-done with it...tired of leaky T-tops and hatches.

If I could find another rear-drive SS Monte Carlo less drivetrain for CHEAP, I'd be on it like a bum on a sammich.

why..
just get a cheap monty .. and drop it in it..
cheaper than an SS..
should'nt be hard to find a SS for under 1500.. but it'll be a rat..

why not a 85 up olds..
they look good.. with the right wheel/tire combo..
and all the SS/gn parts bolt on..
and cheaper than an SS
down side of a g body..
thieves love them..
if you get a g body..
buy a grant stear wheel theft lock..
it alows you to take the whell off..
and save you from the car going missing..
unless it's a pro..

funny you mention an '85 cutlass...I had one.

I know all about them thievin' bastards...the Cutlass was vandalized(snatched the stereo and such out of it...left the cassette tape in the car, on the seat....guess they didn't care for Van Halen), and the '86 Monte SS was stolen altogether.

Only downside to having an '81-88 G-body....too easy to pop the window out at the top, snake a well-bent clotheshanger down to pop the lock.

Still, would be open to one again....SS or not.....contemplated a malibu wagon as well, i've got time...LOL

mine (86 SS) the lock pin , smooth one.. can't get it with a 'hanger
and the p/locks reworked so they don't unlock car without the key in the ign or you use the alarm fob

i can hook you up with a 83 Malibu wagon. decent project. v6 auto. runs fine according to owner. has surface rust about the size of the palm of you hand on the back drivers door. has a good size dent in the hood. has power windows and door locks and even the power rear vents. idk if it has power hatch. i think they want 1500. underneath looked clean. a 60ish yo women has it on my way to beech bend.

I dunno, guys.....this car may have just gotten a reprieve.

Think I'm gonna invest in a (relatively) cheap welder and fix this thing...hey, I can't fuck it up any worse than it already is.

Tired of sending'em to the junkyard....not necessarily gonna tub it(unless the BBC Fairy happens to leave one for me), but I have some ideas...stay tuned.

Turns out this thing is savable after all.....yay for me!

Intake gaskets were leaking like a sieve, allowing small amounts of oil into a few of the inlet ports on the heads as you can see.....that shit's all cleaned up now.

Long story short, cleaned/blasted the intake, new gaskets, stabbed the new distributor and mounted the new coil...it runs so much better.

Joe, I always wanted one of these done up the way I'm doing mine when I was a teenager.

still remember being 15 years old, in, what, 1989? I wanted one of these soooooo bad...but not having a job, or folks with money/desire to buy someting like that for themselves, let alone me.....makes it that much better now knowing I busted my ass to get where I am/what I have.

The 60's-70's bad-ass mobiles were at the top of the heap, of course, but Z28's were a big thing in my area at the time...you were king shit if it was an IROC.

Of course, they'd get their asses handed to them in stock form, but they were the epitome of cool in that time.

In fact, my Z was actually one of those inthe high-school parking lot that I lusted after as a broke-ass kid....the fact that I own it and am molding it into my vision for it is just mind-blowing.

Mullet?

Dude, I was rockin' the full-party longhair deal for the longest time...and yes, these things are "magnets", though that means nothing to a married man of 13 years(the mullet came AFTER the "I Do", thankfully gone now for 5 years)...but back in the day?

It was ON... Laughing

The scoop belongs to SJ, he HAD to slap it on just to try to convince me to Sawzall the hood.

If it was a base-model flat hood?

Perhaps...if the engine was bigger.

Something to note, once again....this stuff I'm doing is WAY overkill for this engine...but it's all in preparation for a much bigger bullet.
