Thanks, Joe.
Finally got the frame painted, and starting to reassemble everything. Gonna snug up the IFS, then weld it for additional strength (hope I never have to remove it.....but then, I usually just weld 'em anyway...). Then mock up the engine/tranny. Photos to follow in a few days.

Not much new to report, been busy as heck. Here’s a couple of photos after painting. I've cleaned up where the welds will be, and will put the finish coat on after welding. More to follow, probably after the PowerTour:
One of these days I'll get Mary's reaction to it for ya!

Had a rainy day, so I spent most of it fitting the under-floorboard brake booster and master cylinder, then started with assembly of the frame.
This kit from Classic Engineering bolts in with 48 bolts, most of which are 3/8,with a few 5/16, all grade 5. I replaced several with chrome buttonheads for appearance. There are 12 on the bottom of the frame that can’t be seen. Pretty stout!
The next 4 photos show the IFS from different views.
And finally, another straight on photo. Tomorrow I’ll add the steering rack and swaybar, and hopefully check the engine/tranny for fit…..

Time to mock up the engine and tranny.
Pretty good fit, but will need some modification if I’m to use the attached 200R4. I’m setup for a Turbo 350, and after I look at the ratios and get some opinions, I’ll decide which tranny.
A little lower angle so you can see how well it sits down into the frame. Finished ‘till after we get back from the PowerTour!! Leaving a week from tomorrow.

yes...
should be around 2700rpm at 70 mph..
the 200r4 would be more like 2300rpm.
and I'm guess'n I didn't do the math..
but my last car with th350 and 3.07 rear gears and 28" tall tire..
ran 26-2700 rpm at 70.. |

Earl runs about 2500 at 70 with about the same setup....3.08, and the T-10 final drive is 1:1....not sure what the final gear in the T350 is. I'll check and run the spiffy little tire calculator I found on the 'net.
Thx,

Well, the plan for now is to start with the TH350. The tranny I have isn't a 200, it's a 700.....and will require some serious frame modification to fit. I think a 350 with a long tailshaft will extend past the 'tunnel' area where the X-member comes together, and if mileage is a problem, I could add an overdrive unit.....sound reasonable? If all else fails, I can always go back and modify the frame for the 200 or 700, and gear the 9" lower. _________________ Garage cleaning....gas powered leaf blowers aren't just for the yard anymore...... |
