Hmmm. You can get a 6AL for nearly that price brand new from MSD. I would offer him a max of $100 and even then, it could be (a) a clone, which MSD wouldn't fix if it's been used or (b) broken, because a lot of people miswire them and fry the inductive input, which you'd need on your computerized/EFI engine.

Unless you are planning some pretty hardcore mods, I'd look into a 6A without the limiter, for about the same money, new. And maybe spring an extra $40 for a hotter coil to go with it.

What year is your jeep? later 4.0s switched to coilpacks... (I forget which year, I think 2001?)

aha - agreed on the limiter then. Still, I always worry about used MSD stuff. In the right hands, that is a great box! in the hands of a less skilled person - it fries easier than a potato at McDonalds.

FYI, MSD's been making their boxes in China now for 3-4 years. They're not made in the USA anymore. Ever since Summit has been offering their cheap "lookalikes" which are the exact same boxes, made by MSD, overseas.

Hey Gamble

If your're looking for a decent ignition upgrade, you might consider MSD's StreetFire ign. box.

It runs about $140 new, and it IS made in the USA(states so on the package, and on the ign. box itself)...single-stage rev limiter, 2 dials adjusted w/a mini-screwdriver(much like the MSD 6AL2, about the same size as well).

I'm running one on my Camaro, makes a hell of a difference...combined it w/a Blaster SS coil and a billet distributor from Big End performance products(Mallory, also USA-made....Big End just buys a large amount from Mallory and has their name put on it)...keep in mind, this is on a small-block Chevy, and I don't think it's compatible with Hall-Effect ignition systems(the Programmable 6AL2's ARE).
