This is just a little thread to keep things socially happy.
This is how it works: post up what you did to your car/truck/beater/bike/whatever today or over the past few days. It's fun and makes an inspiring read for those of us who are perpetually lazy (like myself).
Anyway, I'll start:
Last night, replaced the coil pack harness. Stared at it a bit, went back inside grumbling. Tonight, a buddy is coming over to help me out. _________________ ~Craig, Administrator of this Facility

looked up a painless wire harness for the 71 c-10..
thinking a new one might be a good idea.. with the new engine..
and n.o.s.
pricey tho.
550.00 for the main harness
and 180.00 for the a/c harness..
this is engine and cab harness..
looking at valves/retainers for the dart pro 1's
need lighter set up.. to run up the red line..
if computer "guess'n" programs are to be believed
with those heads and the dart open intake 12 to one and my roller cam..
hp drop off should be 7600 rpm
90% from peak hp from 4900 to 7500rpm..
and 500ft lb at 2100rpm
600+ ft lb from 3700 up to 7700rpm..
all from a little 496
took invertory of the dash parts for the c-10
conovan dash panel, autometer old school retro white gauges
birtch 1/4" plywood, to make wood insert to stain to match the grant 3 spoke walnut wheel..
3 gauge pod dash pad
need green(2) and one blue 12volt leds for the turn signals and high beam dum dum dash lights.

I did this mostly in the last week or so.
Tried running 12 gauge power wire using wire snake. Got angry enough to remove center console. Worked well. Removed back seat, ran power wire all the way. Then ran the 4 gauge power wire along same path. Put it back together.
Five minutes later remembered I need a control wire too.
Next day, pulled center console back apart to realize I had no switch. Re-assemble center console and go buy switch.
Next day disassemble center console again. Shove power wire through firewall only to find that the fuse panel is on the inside of the car. Pull wire back out. Shove into fuse panel on the radio fuse. Run wire up and around footwell to center console. Realized I needed to mount the switch. Hack up coin holder slot to fit switch, took about an hour. Find that switch doesn't fit anyway. Make switch fit, connect one end of wire. It's been raining the whole time, so reassemble and leave it alone. Go 60 mile round trip to find out a place doesn't have the part they said they did. Start disassembling center console on the way home. Took 9 screws and it was off when I pulled in the driveway. Unbolted back seat to finish running power wire, left in place.
Today, I took a break.
Thinking I might try buying a cheap head unit off a friend of mine if he feels like selling it..... If not, there's a couple for sale under $50 on craigslist. Might take me a week or two, but I think I'll be able to get one soon enough. Amp should be here tomorrow, wiring is almost done...so close. _________________ I don't fail, I succeed in finding what doesn't work. |

Good idea thread... Sheesh ! your a busy Guy Bowtie. Lets see...Installed a new 12'' pressure plate in the 57, Cleaned up a housing for the rear and put it in prime, paint tomorrow. Built brackets for the ladder bars, cleaned and painted them and will weld in tomorrow. Cleaned and painted said ladder bars.. Started the Falcon to finish breaking in the Cam. Pulled the driveshaft ( Falcon) to cut and reweld in hopes to get the correct balence,,,TLW. _________________ I have risen to the level of my own incompetency |

I washed the body shop crap off the Impala and it's engine this weekend. Worked on Gregg's Caddy as well. Finished installing the amp on the stereo and tuned it. Put on a couple window seals, mostly finished buttoning up the dash board, zip tied all the wiring, and hosed the carb with cleaner. I wanted it to rain today so I washed his Caddy yesterday. It worked, it's raining now. _________________

I've got some dash lights out and have been wanting to order those for a while. Just haven't gotten around to it. I've got bigger problems on it to fix. _________________ 1978 K5 Blazer Heavy and Sloooooow

Well, got my hands on a head unit today. Sold a friend of mine my old amp for 40-50 future dollars. Got the head unit for 100 future dollars. BTW, future dollars is money that is going to be paid but is not paid right now. So a guy owes me $50, and I owe his brother $100.
But, I did get a head unit. Kenwood. Has a CD player AND RCA outputs! I'm so happy......
Finished running the control wire, wired up my new amp that arrived today, got the subs hooked up, just need to remove my old radio, put the new one in, wire it up, and connect the power cable to the battery. Oh, and put the back seat and center console back in. Shouldn't take me more than a day to finish it up hopefully. _________________ I don't fail, I succeed in finding what doesn't work. |
