What's going on with Rodder's Corner?

Here's the skinny:

Well, I had to pull the database from this board/server. This is no small file, 127mb at least. Since I don't have access to the server where this board is hosted, I had to come up with a different solution.

The solution was to basically set up a locally hosted phpBB2 board on my computer. From there, I could take the database from this place and put it on my virtual server. From there, I had to install phpBB3 and convert the 2 stuff to 3. Once 3 is up and running, I can transfer that to my server space.

As soon as it's hot, I will switch it. It's so hard to do because I know recent posts will be lost as it takes me about 5-7 hours worth of cursing, converting and whatnot to make the switch. I'll get it running so everyone can post and whatnot, then I can start working on the graphics, skins, features and add-ons. Don't want to have it where anyone can't post.

However, it's the last time I'll have to go through all of this mess. That's the beauty of having total control. Right now, it's about 30 percent done with the conversion taken from the backup I took at 11:28 am EST today.

So, after the switch, I'll basically take this board down/make it point to the new one so there's no confusion.

Whew! Don't try this at home.

Ol' trustynuts the Dell is an awesome little lappy, she'll be fine. I'm on another one of my laptops right now, no worries. Smile

I'm letting it chug away at converting everything, no need to aggravate it by using it to multi-task.

This HP and my Toshiba both blow. The Dell might be old and slow but it's rock solid.

You guys haven't seen shit yet. All I did for right now is change the skin to the default one for conversion purposes.

It's gonna get better, MUCH better. Way beyond this for sure.

It'll be feature rich. Trust me, I'm not re-inventing the wheel. Like I've said before, do a google search for phpBB3.

We're on phpBB2 now and I have no control over the database. I'm upgrading to phpBB3 and will have control so it can't be a bad thing. I'm over 30 hours into this of my own time so it's going to be good. This is all on my own accord and something I've always wanted to do to give everyone here even more freedom.

Granted, it is my dollar, my time and my board but it is all for everyone here.
